Adding Texture to Your Space

Date posted: January 5, 2016

Every well-rounded space needs to have 4 basic elements – texture, color, shine, and pattern. Each week I’ll cover one of these elements. This week, say hello to texture!

Texture adds a bit of visual interest to your home. Sometimes it’s subtle for a classier feel and other times it’s bold and the main star of the show. Whichever style you prefer, texture –  both in large and small quantities – can make your home style-tastic.

One easy and affordable way to add texture to any space is by incorporating woven baskets. Not only are they great for design purposes, but who doesn’t need to have extra – and stylish – storage space? And because it’s a new year, what better time than now to get organized? And baskets can help you do just that.

If you already have a rug, don’t worry. You don’t have to replace the one you have. Instead, consider layering your rugs. Add a large jute rug under your current rug for the perfect splash of texture. Or simply add smaller jute or other textured rugs by the front or back door or even as a runner down your hallway.

Window Coverings

Not only do window coverings provide light and privacy control, but they’re natural ways to add even more texture. Woven wood shades, also called bamboo shades, are an obvious choice. And because they’re a designer favorite, it’s no wonder why they’re so popular. While bamboo shades have beautiful texture, don’t feel limited. You can also find fantastic texture with roman shades and wood blinds, to name just a few.

Knitted Throws

Unique Light Fixtures

Have you ever thought about adding texture in unique places, like in your light fixture? This will create a one-of-a-kind look that you, your friends, and even your neighbors will drool over.

Have you added texture to your home decor?
