Area rugs add a feeling of warmth to any room. An area rug can actually change the entire look and feel of a room. Any time of the year is a good time to add a rug, but autumn is just one of those times that make more sense than other times. The temperatures are cooling down, and before you know it, we will be staring winter in the face. We’ll all be looking for ways to stay warm, in and outside of the house, and adding an area rug is one way to accomplish that.
Some Benefits of Area Rugs
Add the luxury of an area rug to your bedroom, specifically at your bedside. A 2’ x 3′ rug goes perfectly at the spot on the floor where your feet hit. If you’ve ever had the good fortune to spend a night in a Bed and Breakfast, there is a chance that you’ve experienced this feeling of living in luxury, when you get out of bed, and set your feet down on a small, but very cozy rug. There is no shock of a beautiful, yet cold, hard wood floor. And if you have carpeting on the floor, this little gem of a rug will serve dual purposes. First, it will still add the feeling of luxury, and secondly, it will save the wear and tear on your carpeting that is caused by you landing on the exact same spot, morning after morning.
Contrary to popular belief, area rugs can go anywhere. They do not require that some piece of furniture sits atop them, although that is the case for the vast majority of rugs.
Consider a particular area of your home where there is no furniture, there is just bare floor. It might be in the foyer, or an area of the house that is considered a transition area, leading from one room to the other. Now imagine how much more inviting that area would look with a rug. It makes perfect sense when you think about it. You have an area in your home upon which you place a rug, why not call that rug an area rug.
Area rugs come in all sizes, and one of the best reasons for this is that many a rug will find itself under a table, and tables come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. If you don’t have a rug under your table, it is well worth looking into, as this is a perfect example of how a rug can add warmth, both in the way it will look, and the way that it will feel.
When shopping for an area rug to go under your table, be sure to take the chairs into consideration when measuring for the size. A good rule of thumb is to actually pull the chairs out as far as they normally are pulled out when you are getting ready to sit down. This will avoid the rug interfering with a smooth slide back in of the chair, after you have sat down. It is a royal pain in the you know what to have the back feet of the chair getting caught on the edge of the rug.
