Window blinds should be easy to shop for. At least one would think so. Window shades are not even something I have even paid any attention to, so I just assumed one shade or blind is the same as the next. Guess what; it is not nearly as easy as I thought it would be. I just moved. I’m a renter, so I figured I wouldn’t have to think about window shades. Well that is not exactly true. The fact is that I didn’t even think about window coverings at all.
I leased a house, not an apartment, and during the walkthrough the leasing agent pointed out several windows that had some pretty ragged mini blinds on them. The agent told me that the owner of the house would give me an allowance that I could deduct from my first rent payment to be used to replace the blinds. I was really pleased to hear that, and it made me feel very good about the owner of the house.
Into the house I moved. The mini blinds covered the windows, so I wasn’t in a huge rush to replace them, but the agent called me asking for a picture of the window coverings for the owner, who needed proof for tax purposes or something. So I fired up the iPad, and went window covering shopping. Let me tell you, there are a ton of choices when it comes to window blinds and shades. Not knowing where to start, I Googled window shades. There were plenty of choices, including companies that I have heard of, and companies whose names were foreign to me, which is not a surprise when you consider that this was my first foray into shopping for window coverings. Lowes, Home Depot, and JC Penney were listed, as were Blinds.com, Steve’s Blinds(Really?), and SelectBlinds.
I decided to shop the sites that specialized in window blinds, and started with Blinds.com. Very nice site, and a ton of products from multiple brands. They even had a way to narrow my search for product type. Being the kind of shopper who wants a choice, I wanted to at least shop one other site. Steve’s Blinds, or SelectBlinds? I chose Select Blinds. Their Google ad boasted a 4.5 out of 5 star rating, and they claimed to be the highest rated and most reviewed site on the Internet. Plus Steve’s just sounded hokey.
Bingo, I found a winner. Select blinds site was far simpler to navigate, and knowing now that I wanted cellular shades, they made it so easy to shop. They had cellular shades already customized with exactly the features that I was looking for, in the colors that I wanted to choose, at very competitive prices. Plus they sold only one brand, the SelectBlinds brand. The fact that they were that confident about their brand instilled a certain level of confidence in me. They were a company with a heart. They had supplied all of the window coverings to that tear jerker of a show, Extreme Makeover.
The long and the short of it is that I ordered samples, (recommended), liked what I got, ordered actual window shades, and hung them myself, and absolutely love them. These are the shades I ended up going with: http://www.selectblinds.com/cellularshades/38doublecell-lightfilter-cellular-shades.html. Great experience! Thank you SelectBlinds.com.
